PB&J

We need a new mattress like peanut butter needs jelly. My back is painin' something awful. Two more weeks and then it will be mattress shopping time. Until then, Advil, Advil, and Advil - and the gym. I took a class last night called "On the Ball." It is a really cool class using hand weights, yoga maths, a medicine ball, and large exercising balls. Man, what an amazing work out. Between the bad mattress and last night's gym sesh, I am feeling it today! I had so many errands to run today that I didn't make it to the gym. That will be remedied tomorrow. :) Loving winter break!

SLACKER

So I am a serious slacker. We were doing really well preparing for the marathon and then Pete started to get pretty bad shin splints. I found that running was, in a very perverse way, relaxing; but I wasn't seeing any changes in my body. I was able to prop my Kindle up on the treadmill, bump up the font, and read while I ran. I was eating really well, and GAINING weight. Yeah I know, muscle weighs more than fat. I call bullshit. I have lost over 15% in body fat since last April when I started hitting the gym more. I feel better, I am stronger, but my pants still fit the same. Maybe I am at my maintenance weight. If so, that sucks. Skinny was never my goal, it was all about being healthier and stronger, skinny would be an awesome bonus.

I will be posting weekly to help keep record of what I am doing. Consider this my fitness/exercise journal.

Day 3

Wow, in the last 3 days I have run 9 miles. Good Lord, I don't think I've run 9 miles in my life before. Now that I have a proper stretching routine before I run, I actually feel really good tonight.

Day One & Two

3 miles each day. Not too shabby... I'm averaging about 15 minutes a mile. Which would be good, but I am running from zombies.

I've been really stressed at work the past week. I must say there is something cathartic about running. All I focus on is my breathing, speed, distance... it is kind of nice to tune the world out for a bit.

Pretty sore hip flexors - must do more stretching. Pretty nervous for Saturday, my first 6 mile run. I'm just going to keep at this and see where it takes me. The PF Chang 1/2 marathon is coming up in January. Pete and I are going to sign up. We should be ready by then. (FYI: Ready means I won't die.)

The Start

Well, I always said the only reason to run is if zombies were chasing you, or there was an amazing sale. Consider us chased by zombies...

I admire people who set a fitness goal, follow through, and achieve it. Running a marathon is a goal Pete and I have set for ourselves. This blog will help be our motivation for following through. Accountability if you will.

Wish us luck and pray the zombies don't catch us.
